POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION

  • Victoria University homepage

History

The PGSA started during the late 1980s when a handful of postgraduate students gathered and created an informal group that organised social events where postgraduates could mix.

These soon became more academic in nature with seminars, discussion groups and other similar events becoming the core activities - with social mixing held afterwards.

By the early 1990s the postgraduate group had decided to hold the first of several highly successful postgraduate conferences. Papers from the conferences were published.

The group gained the right from VUWSA to nominate their own representatives to postgraduate representative positions on various University boards and committees.

What we do

The PGSA needs to know if you have an issue. We are always ready to discuss the issues that you think are impacting on your postgraduate experience at Victoria University. Don't hesitate - get in touch! We are here to help you.

The Executive

The PGSA Executive consists of up to 12 enrolled postgraduates who work on a voluntary basis to organise events and discuss postgrade issues. Like you, we all have pressing deadlines to attend to but also want to make a contribution to the postgraduate commuity as we study. The Executive exists solely to serve the postgraduate commuity through constituitonally appropriate activity.

Membership

All postgraduates enrolled at Victoria are automatically members of the PGSA. We are a university-wide group of students that are joined through the unique activity of research. We have a unique relationship with the University. We are a key constituency in that the University exists to create new knowledge through research. Postgraduates create that knowledge through our reseach and so are an asset to the University.

If you want to be an active member attend our various events, become a faculty rep, executive, or contact us if you want to help out.
