New Zealand Institute of International Affairs

Sponsors

As earlier commented, the NZIIA has long and valued associations with Victoria University of Wellington and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They are our most important sponsors. Their support is vital to us.

The Institute also seeks to involve business people in its activities. Our 1999 seminar on Free Trade in the New Millennium, attracted international speakers, including Clayton Yeuter, former US Trade Representative and later Secretary of Agriculture; Professor Jagdish Bhagwati of Columbia University, a world-renowned trade economist; Dr Lorenz Schomerz, Secretary of the German Economics Ministry; Mike Moore, the then Director-General of the WTO and former Prime Minister of New Zealand.

The Institute collaborates on various occasions with the New Zealand Branch of the International Law Association in Wellington and Auckland, to the advantage of our members as well as theirs. Some events we run attract a number of lawyers and law students. As international considerations bear more and more on the work of New Zealand law firms and companies, the Institute has a role in nurturing these legal and business partnerships.
