News 2005The Third Annual NZCPL Conference The Third Annual NZCPL conference is once again sure to be a thought-provoking two days of discussion on the Executive from a range of skilled speakers from both national and international political and legal fields. This year's conference has a diverse mix of international and national speakers including Professor Evan Fox-Decent from McGill University in Montreal, Professor Jacques Fremont from University of Montreal and Dr Andrew Lynch, Director of the Terrorism and Law Project, Gilbert & Tobin Centre of Public Law in New South Wales. The Rt Hon Sir Geoffrey Palmer will be speaking, along with Dr Mark Prebble the State Services Commissioner and Sir Kenneth Keith, along with other highly skilled speakers from both the Political Science and Law Faculties of New Zealand Universities. The Conference will be opened by the Hon Michael Cullen, Deputy Prime Minister. Free Trade Agreements Symposium On Saturday 27 August at the Victoria University Law School the Australia New Zealand Society of International Law will kick start a day long symposium on the topic of Free Trade Agreements. The Symposium is jointly sponsored by the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law and the New Zealand Centre for Public Law. ANZSIL aims to promote and support the practice and teaching of international law as well as providing a forum for discussions of issues in international law. The NZCPL is based at the Law Faculty at Victoria University of Wellington. It sponsors lectures and conferences on public law and publishes the New Zealand Journal of Public and International Law. The symposium is being held the day after the Beeby Colloquium, an event organised by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the New Zealand branch of the International Law Association, which brings together international law academics from around New Zealand.
