Overview
The Graduate School's health programmes recognise and respond to the learning requirements of a wide range of professionals in the health care sector - from nurses and midwives to social workers, occupational therapists and other health specialists.
Choose a path that suits you best - from entry-level certificate qualifications to postgraduate diplomas within our new Master's programme the Master of Health Care (MHC). This programme offers a combination of compulsory and 'elective' courses, with both coursework and research, thesis-based options at Master's level. The path you take, and the points at which you join (or leave) the framework will depend on your previous academic achievements and chosen professional direction.
Postgraduate Qualifications
- Postgraduate Certificate in Health Care (60pts)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Health Care (120pts)
- Master of Health Care (240pts)
- PhD in Health
From 2011 we will no longer be offering the following programme. Students currently enrolled in the programme below, will be encouraged to complete their postgraduate certificate and then enrol in further qualifications within our newly developed curriculum.

Classes and Study Commitments
As part of your study you will need to attend 'Schools' at Victoria University that are designed to supplement your learning, give you time for study and provide you with access to our staff for advice and guidance. Normally held at our campus in Wellington, they are also a great opportunity for you to meet and mingle with your fellow students - to share ideas and strategies for learning, identify areas for change and benchmark your progress.
Entry Requirements
You must be eligible for registration as a health professional as defined under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act 2003.
You must also have completed a Bachelors degree from a New Zealand tertiary institution, or apply for admission with equivalent status on the basis of extensive practice or professional or scholarly experience of an appropriate kind.
