Centre for Strategic Studies ranked second in region

Victoria University of Wellington’s Centre for Strategic Studies has been ranked second in all think tanks in Southeast Asia, Australasia and the South Pacific by a prestigious global report.

The 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, just published by the University of Pennsylvania, ranked the Centre second only to a leading Australian institute and ahead of other highly regarded think tanks in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The centre was also ranked 39th world-wide in university-affiliated think tanks.

Victoria University’s Professor of Strategic Studies Robert Ayson says the ranking confirms that the Centre’s efforts in providing New Zealand views on regional and global strategic issues are valued internationally.

“This is a major encouragement for our continuing work in this area, particularly considering the significant resources being devoted to think tank activities elsewhere in our region.”

The Centre has a full programme of events this year including policy dialogues with other leading think tanks, talks by visiting security experts, and commentary on New Zealand’s Security Council role, and the Government’s forthcoming Defence White Paper, reviewing New Zealand’s defence policy.

The report is a closely watched annual survey of the work of over 6,000 international think tanks. The full report can be viewed here.

The Centre specialises in research and public dialogue on strategic and security issues.
