Victoria’s December Graduation will be made up of four ceremonies, with a total of 1288 qualifications being awarded to 1191 graduands, including 75 who are graduating with a PhD.
Three of the ceremonies will be held at the Michael Fowler Centre and one on Te Herenga Waka Marae on Victoria’s Kelburn campus, where 26 qualifications will be awarded.
Victoria University Chancellor Sir Neville Jordan says graduation is a time for students to celebrate their achievements.
“A degree from Victoria University is a major milestone—anyone graduating should relish in the significance of their accomplishment. It’s also a time for graduands to enjoy the pride that their family, friends and teachers feel in what they’ve achieved.
“In the years our graduates have spent studying at Victoria, students who started here just out of school have matured into knowledgeable and confident adults. Our adult learners, too, have expanded their outlook on the world and have shown themselves capable of achieving something their earlier circumstances might not have allowed.
“As alumni of New Zealand’s globally ranked capital city university, I know that this week’s cohort of Victoria graduates will go on to make an important contribution to New Zealand and the world, and I wish each of them every success in their future endeavours,” says Sir Neville.
He says the formal processions of staff and students through the streets of Wellington, which will be held from 12 noon on Thursday 10 December, is a chance for the wider Wellington community to take part in the special occasion.
“The shared acknowledgement of our students’ success is a real highlight for those graduating and we encourage the public to come and celebrate with us at the parade.”
