Victoria researchers collaborate in local climate change events

Victoria University of Wellington researchers are helping to spread the word about the impact of climate change at three events in Wellington this month.

The ‘Keep a Cool World’ events are focused on informing locals about climate change and inspiring them to take action over the issue.

"We want to build hope by looking at what’s already being done, and offering people practical ideas for taking action,” says event organiser and Keep a Cool World co-founder Christine Thomson. “There is a growing sense in Wellington and nationally that governments need to be bold around this issue. We want to encourage that."

The events—one to be held at Victoria’s Kelburn campus—include a presentation by climate science expert Professor James Renwick from Victoria’s School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, a panel discussion featuring Pala Molisa from Victoria’s School of Accounting and Commercial Law and a screening of climate change film Wisdom to Survive.

The free events are being held in collaboration with organisations including Wellington City Council, Radio New Zealand, Generation Zero, World Wildlife Fund, the Sustainability Trust, the Sustainable Business Network, Switched on Bikes and Conscious Consumers and with support from Victoria’s student environmental group Gecko and student association VUWSA.
