New senior leadership appointment at Victoria University

Victoria University of Wellington has appointed highly-skilled business leader Mark Loveard as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Mr Loveard comes to Victoria from Airways Corporation of New Zealand Limited, where he has been Chief Financial Officer for the past five years and also General Manager of Shared Services for the last three years.

During his career, Mr Loveard has held a range of senior executive and consulting positions within international mobile, banking, consulting and energy companies. He has also run his own software and consulting business.

“We are delighted to have someone of Mark’s calibre and experience joining Victoria’s senior leadership team,” says Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford.

“He has an impressive track record in leading complex, strategic, business and technology transformations. Having Mark at the helm of our financial and operating activities will position Victoria well to achieve the ambitious goals we have set in our Strategic Plan.”

Originally from the United Kingdom, Mr Loveard has a Bachelor of Arts with first-class honours from the University of Exeter and an MBA (with distinction) from the University of Warwick.

He has lived in Wellington for more than 20 years and says he is a strong advocate of the benefits for the region, and New Zealand as a whole, of Victoria being a world-leading capital city university.

“I am delighted to be joining Victoria at a very exciting time in its development.

“I am impressed with the diversity and richness of the Victoria community and I look forward to being part of the team leading the University forward.”

Mr Loveard will take up his new position at Victoria on 16 November 2015.
