Calling all would-be Wellington developers

The Wellington tertiary community is calling on the city’s entrepreneurs and innovators to help enhance the experience students have in the city.

The Cap App Challenge, launched today, is offering $15,000 in prizes for individuals, teams or companies to imagine an app that would boost tertiary students’ everyday connection and interaction with Wellington.

Students have suggested ideas such as a job and work experience app, a student carpooling app and an app to find student accommodation in Wellington, amongst many more.

“We know that Wellington offers a huge amount to the tens of thousands of tertiary students who call the capital home. We are asking for people to put their thinking caps on to come up with innovative and imaginative ways to showcase Wellington to that community,” says Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford.

Professor Guilford will take part in the judging panel which will choose the winners during a dragon’s den style event in March 2015. “Solving real world problems and encouraging collaboration is what the tertiary community is all about. What better way to bring that about than by supporting an initiative that seeks to enhance the experience students have in our capital city,” he says.
