The information below is specific to our creative writing courses and programmes. International students should apply for admission through Victoria International.
Undergraduate Applicants
There is an exception to the single enrolment period for CREW applicants who are NOT undertaking an undergraduate degree.
All applications for our limited entry creative writing CREW courses go through a selection process, with applicants notified of the outcome by the dates listed under Application and Notification Deadlines. We recommend that prospective applicants first visit our Undergraduate Courses page for more information.
Currently enrolled at Victoria?
If you enrolled in a CREW course but have not yet submitted your writing sample and support statement:
- Download the 'Undergraduate Application form for enrolled students' below, or contact us to have a copy sent to you.
- Submit the completed form with your writing sample and support statement directly to the IIML (not to Victoria Enrolments) by post or in person, or by email using the Word version of the form below.
- You also need to complete an Add/Drop form - see your Faculty office for advice. Limited entry courses cannot be added via the online Add/Drop function in my Victoria.
Not currently enrolled at Victoria?
If you are not undertaking an undergraduate degree:
- Enrol in one or more CREW courses and upload your writing sample and support statement for each course via Victoria's Online Enrolment System (OES). by the relevant application deadline below. You will not incur a late fee if you apply and enrol by these deadlines.
- Available CREW courses and application deadlines are listed in the OES under Limited Entry Programmes and Courses.
- Select 'UG Cert of Proficiency' from the options under Programme at Question 2.

MA Applicants
Prospective MA in Creative Writing (CREW) applicants should first visit our Postgraduate - MA and Common Questions pages for a detailed overview of the programme, entry requirements, answers to common questions and more.
MA CREW applicants must enrol at Victoria and submit their application material by the application deadline. You can do this online or on paper. All applications for this limited entry course will then go through a selection process, with applicants notified of the outcome before Christmas.
Applications for the Scriptwriting stream may include video material, but not as a replacement for your writing sample. If you wish to apply for both streams, you must submit two separate applications.

PhD Applicants
Prospective PhD in Creative Writing (CREW) applicants should first visit our Postgraduate – PhD page for more information about the programme and application process, prerequisites and answers to common questions.
Enquiries about the PhD can be made to the IIML at any time during the year but the application deadline is 1 November and all applications will be considered together after this date.
There are two parts to the application process for the PhD in Creative Writing.
Applications for all Victoria PhD programmes and for the Victoria PhD Scholarship should be made to the Faculty of Graduate Research (FGR) using the Application for PhD Admission and Victoria Scholarships form downloadable from their website.
As well as lodging your Application for PhD Admission, there are additional submission requirements for the PhD in Creative Writing. These are detailed in our 'Programme-specific Application' form and must be submitted directly to the IIML.
The deadline for both applications is 1 November.
Applicants will be advised of the outcome before Christmas, with a provisional enrolment date of 1 March in the following year for those accepted to the programme.

Application and Notification Deadlines
Undergraduate Deadlines for 2012
Please contact the IIML directly to see if we will consider late applications for a particular course. If an application deadline falls on a weekend or public holiday, the deadline is automatically extended until the end of the next working day.
10 December for workshops taught in the first trimester (Feb/Mar-Jun)
Notification by mid-January.
28 May for workshops taught in the second trimester (Jul-Oct)
Notification by mid-June.
8 October for workshops taught in the summer trimester (Nov-Feb)
Notification by mid-November.
MA Application Deadline
1 November each year for the programme taught between March and November the following year. You will be notified of the outcome before Christmas.
PhD Application Deadline
1 November each year for the PhD programme beginning in late Feb/early March the following year. (There are three annual deadlines for general PhD applications submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Research. The 1 November deadline is the one relevant to our programme.)
Please note: Victoria PhD Scholarship applications can be submitted on the same form you use to apply for the PhD programme. (See Scholarships and Prizes for more details.)
