Book launch: Lives We Leave Behind by Maxine Alterio

Date: 8 November 2012 Time: 5.00 pm
Venue: Technique Restaurant (next to the Otago Polytechnic Student Centre), Harbour Terrace, North Dunedin

Penguin Group (NZ), in association with the School of Hospitality, Otago Polytechnic and the University Book Shop, will launch the new novel by Maxine Alterio in her home town of Dunedin.

Described as 'a powerful story of love, friendship and the legacies of war', Lives We Leave Behind follows two nursing sisters from New Zealand to Egypt and, later, France during the First World War. With little in common beyond a desire to serve their country, impetuous Meg and cautious Addie will share wartime experiences that create a bond between them and change both women's lives forever.

'Maxine Alterio brings a novelist's eye to the startling story of New Zealand's World War I nurses. I was enthralled and moved by the lives of these women and their experiences of war.' Laurence Fearnley, award-winning novelist

Lives We Leave Behind was the creative component of Maxine's PhD in Creative Writing at Victoria.

RSVP essential by 6 November.
