This course examines the Declaration of Independence and the background of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, its signing and various interpretations of it, creating an understanding of how the history of the Treaty relates to the modern day, its effects upon the Maori people, and its implications for future relations between non-tangata whenua people in Aotearoa. Field trip to Archives New Zealand (no cost). Attendance is also required at a noho marae (approximate cost $15.00). 100% internal assessment.
