Nau mai, haere mai ki te pae tukutuku hou o Te Kawa a Māui.
Welcome to our Māori Studies website. On these pages you will find all the information you need to plan an academic career in Māori Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. You will also find links to all of the other parts of the University that you may need to refer to as well.
Māori Studies programmes are now recognised as a fundamental part of university academic tradition across the country. Amongst these, our School – Te Kawa a Māui – is acknowledged as a leader in many areas. We were the first to establish a marae at any university in New Zealand and today Te Herenga Waka Marae continues to act as an essential teaching resource in our academic programme. We are also recognised in the New Zealand university research evaluation system (known as PBRF) as one of the leading Māori Studies research units in the country.
Our students are trained and engaged in research activities early in their academic careers and by the time they graduate they are equipped to make positive contributions to Māori development. Our graduates have also achieved an enviable reputation for excellence in te reo and tikanga Māori and many of them occupy positions of leadership and influence in both the private and public sectors across the country.
You will find most, if not all, of the information you need on these web pages to plan for academic life at Te Kawa a Māui. Please feel free however to contact us directly by phone or kanohi ki te kanohi to discuss any part of our programme.
