Tutoring Positions for 2012
Expressions of interest are invited from Māori Studies graduates to work part-time as tutors in undergraduate Te Kawa a Māui courses for 2012. It is expected that successful applicants will either have, or be close to completing, an undergraduate degree or higher in at least one or more of the three undergraduate majors offered by the School. Applications are particularly encouraged from current and intending postgraduate students. Applicants who do not meet the above criteria and/or have relevant experience in a related-discipline maybe considered.
Pay will be at rates set under the Tutors’ Collective Agreement as of 1 November 2011 ($17.33-$20.84 per hour for undergraduates, and $19.63-$24.86 per hour for graduates depending on qualifications and experience).
Tutoring roles are characterised by the following set of conditions:
- Tutorials usually occur for one hour, per course, per teaching week
- Tutorials are designed to provide:
- opportunities for small group discussion and interaction
- learning support for course material and lectures
- in-class advice as to the completion of assignments
- Tutorial teaching usually begins in week two of the trimester and involves 11 weeks of actual teaching
- Tutorials comprise up to 20 students per group
- The tutorial programme is directed by the Course Coordinator but may occasionally involve individual Tutors planning and resourcing some tutorials
- in addition to preparing and teaching tutorials, a tutoring role involves a few hours each week for student consultation and additional hours during the trimester for the marking of student assignments/tests
- Some courses involve a noho marae; Tutors are expected to attend these, and encouraged to stay overnight
- Tutors are also expected to attend regular meetings with the Course Coordinator during the trimester, and one end-of-course examiner's meeting, and possibly attend some lectures for courses in which they are tutoring.
