Victoria University of Wellington MAI ki Poneke A network of Maori and Indigenous Post-graduate students

MAI ki Poneke

MAI ki Poneke provides advice, support and information to Māori and Indigenous PhD candidates in the Wellington area. We also help those who are thinking about enrolling for a PhD but aren't sure how to get started.

MAI members come from across the disciplines including:

  • social sciences and humanities
  • sciences and technology
  • law and architecture

MAI ki Poneke is for students in the Wellington region, no matter where you're enrolled.

We run workshops on study-related topics, host Māori PhD graduates and academics who come to speak about their experiences and provide mentoring for newly enrolled doctoral students.

MAI ki Poneke is part of an international network of postgraduate students hosted by Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga at the University of Auckland.

Kua mahana haere te whenua he wā rūmaki kai
He wā ano hoki tēnei hei titiro whakamua
Ki nga take hōhonu hei whakamaaro i te huarahi mo tōu ara whainga
He aha te wairua o pārekereke
Kimihia te huarahi hei whakapakari i te matauranga.

The warmth of the earth signals the season for planting
and a time also to focus inward
On important matters that shape the path for the future.
What is the essence of parekereke?
It is to seek out the shoots and pathways for knowledge and growth!
