World Film Showcase

  • pdfDownload the World Film Showcase film schedule for the first half, starting 17 March
  • Enjoy movies in different languages! (with English subtitles)
  • Open to Victoria staff and students
  • In VZ003 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Starting at 5pm.
  • Places are limited. Free!
  • After mid term break, the second half continues till 20 May (schedule out in April)

Become a Language Buddy!

  • Interested in exchanging languages with a native speaker of the language you learn?
  • To apply, register at the LLC or download the Application Form and email back to the LLC as an attachment
  • Also, we invite you to join the Language Buddy Group in myVictoria
  • Gain points towards the Victoria Plus Award and/or the Victoria International Leadership Programme

Victoria Award Schemes

  • The LLC is an Activity Provider for the Victoria Plus Award and the Victoria International Leadership Programme. These recognise a student’s involvement in the full university experience and the wider community.
  • Gain points by being an active Language Buddy participant, and by working as a Student Assistant at the LLC

Recent Events

  • LLC supported/took part in Feb. 2010 Victoria orientations for International, Exchange, and New Students, and for New Victoria Staff
  • Our 10-minute documentary about the LLC won the 2009 IALLT Showcase competition, with the announcement featuring in the Spring 2009 Victorious, Victoria's alumni publication (on page 4)
  • Oral Prep workshops were held to help language students better prepare for oral exams, seminars, etc. (May and Sept. 2009)
  • The trial of streamed television (IPTV) in different languages ended late 2009. A big hit for European languages (in particular), IPTV is still being assessed for Victoria.
  • Hands-on, fun workshops about languages were held for Junior Pasefika Day (Sept. 09) and Gifted Children (June 09)
  • The LLC participated in Study@Vic Day for prospective 2010 Victoria students (Aug. 09)
  • Academics from universities in Japan, Malaysia, Israel, Vietnam, Oman and New Zealand visited the LLC in the past year

Get involved!

The LLC is the specialist hub at Victoria providing support for language students.

We invite you to come and study at the LLC with our multimedia resources, meet your friends, study group or language buddy here, and take part in elective workshops organised from time to time.

Events and activities are offered, such as film screenings of movies in different languages in our World Film Showcase.

Come along to some of our movie evenings. Enliven your language learning with movies that transport you into the culture!

Get motivated and get involved in what the LLC offers to support you and your language learning!
