New scholarships support NZ’s next generation of exceptional legal talent

Victoria University’s Faculty of Law has announced $50,000 worth of new scholarships aimed at ensuring promising young students have the opportunity to study law.

Ten $5,000 scholarships will be available in 2017 to school leavers enrolling in first year law at Victoria. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic potential, community involvement, and leadership. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating financial hardship.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Law, Professor Mark Hickford, says the scholarships were made possible due to the generosity of Victoria Law alumni from around the world.

“Our graduates can be found in every corner of the globe, as leaders in legal practice and research. We are very proud of their accomplishments and their reputation for excellence. We’re also proud of our community’s strong culture of generosity and support for current and future students.

“These scholarships will help make a world-class legal education available to deserving young New Zealanders, regardless of background.”
