Venue

The conference will be held in Lecture Theatre 1 (RH-LT1) and the Mezzanine Foyer of Rutherford House, on the Pipitea campus of Victoria University of Wellington, in downtown Wellington. You can download a map of the University's Pipitea campus - on this map the conference venue (RH-LT1) is at coordinate f10, and the Holiday Inn (hidden behind the key to the map) is at coordinate m3. A plan of the facilities used by the conference on the Mezzanine level of Rutherford House is available here.

The lecture hall used for the conference is equipped with AV facilities for Powerpoint, etc. Laptops can be plugged into this system. If you plan to use a Mac laptop, click here for technical advice.

The conference venue is centrally located within the business district of Wellington, and very close to the bus and train stations. Bus and train timetable information is available from Metlink. The Journey Planner will sometimes give walking times as well as times for all forms of public transport.

The University website has a page with maps, transport and parking information. You can also link to an online searchable map of Wellington. You should be able to locate Victoria University's Pipitea Campus, the bus and train stations, hotels, etc. as places in Wellington.

Click here for further travel information, and here for social activities (incl. restaurant recommentations) in Wellington during the conference.

Mac laptops - from our technical people:

> To add a bit more detail, they will of course have to remember to bring their own 'Mac to standard VGA' adaptor (as unlike PC laptops, Macs do not use the ISO standard HD15 connector, and come with a variety of Apple-specific connectors). However that sounds more complicated than it is - if the people in question have ever used their Mac to present before, then they would be aware of this. They just need to remember to pack their adaptor, as there are quite a few different ones, and we don't have all of them.

Our systems are all set up to use the AV industry standard XGA resolution (1024 x 768 at 60Hz) as their optimum display settings, if anyone asks about that. Newer Macs sometimes have a higher refresh rate as the default (75Hz or above) so it might be best to pass this information on to the Mac users. Again, that sounds more complicated than it is, as virtually all Macs will auto-detect what is plugged into their external display adaptor, and set themselves up accordingly.
