1. How much file storage space do I have on my H:drive?
All student account holders are allocated a 100MB workspace called an 'H: drive' for file storage. The H: drive allows you to save your work to a secure drive for the duration of your enrolment at VUW. You can copy the contents of your H:drive to a CD on one of the ITS computers fitted with a CD Writer.
As part of the student email system there is an additional 25GB of storage available, called the Sky Drive. This system is looked after by Microsoft, so documents stored here are not backed up on our servers.
2. What do I do if I forget my password?
Passwords are set to expire every six months (180 days). If you can't remember your password, bring your Student ID to the nearest Video Kiosk and you will be given a default password which you must then change. This is necessary for the security of your account, and to ensure all student services are available to your account.
More information on changing your password is available via P-Synch.
3. What happens to my account at the end of the year?
Your student account will remain active until its expiry date - this is set to May the following year of your last enrolment. If you are enrolled to study in 2011, your account will expire in May 2012. If you re-enrol for 2012 the expiry date will be set to May 2013. All files, email and account credit will be carried over for the duration of your account.
If you have a problem accessing your account please contact ITS.
If you do not re-enrol, your account along with your files will be deleted. Please refer to How do I copy my files? Your student email account is yours to keep, however you will need to log into it at least once a year to keep it active.
4. How do I forward my email?
Your email access can be forwarded to any other email account. This is done within the email system by choosing OPTIONS and then ORGANIZE EMAIL. Once here, you can create Inbox rules to deal with incoming mail.
5. How do I copy my files?
You should always store your important files on the H: Drive. However, it is advisable to keep a second copy of important files. Some suitable backup options are CD, USB, or the Skydrive which comes with your Student Email.
6. My Internet connection is slow. Why is this?
If your connection is slower than others working around you, it is likely this is because you have used more than 1Gb of internet bandwidth in the last 24 hours. Your connection will be throttled to a slow speed for 24 hours, at which point it will return to normal.
7. I loaded money onto my account; I haven’t printed anything, yet I cannot print. Why is this?
Check how many pages you are sending to print - and that the amount you loaded covers this many pages.
