VPN (Virtual Private Network)
What is VPN?
The VPN service allows Victoria staff to access electronic resources from off-campus as if their personally owned computer were connected directly to the Victoria network.
Such resources include access to email, stored files, web publishing and some externally provided web content.
MSN chat clients do not work with the VUW VPN on either Macs or PCs. POP connections to other email addresses may not work.
To take advantage of VPN you will need an Internet connection with an Internet service provider (ISP). A broadband connection works best but you can still use VPN on a dial-up connection.
You can apply for VPN access and receive install instructions using the VPN Access Form; available through Resolve IT on the ITS Webpage. Go to Log a Request under Request (Forms) on the left hand menu option and under the heading "Access" choose VPN Access.
Click on the appropriate link, enter your username and password at the prompt.
The client is available for
Mac PowerPC and Intel
Android (Samsung devices only at this stage)
Note: When finished with the VPN session you need to actively disconnect the session.
M Drive access is available using the VPN client. Once connected your drive mappings should be automatically set up
