Te Herenga Waka Marae Interior

Te Herenga Waka Marae

Te Herenga Waka Marae provides a tūrangawaewae (a place where Māori custom prevails) for the students and staff of Victoria University to promote, disseminate and maintain the use of te reo and tikanga Māori.

The Marae enhances the teaching and research, learning and cultural needs of Māori at the University. It is the venue where Toihuarewa, the Māori Academic Faculty, meets to discuss issues of significance to Māori and where students can gather for academic and social occasions.

For students there are tables to study and eat at, some library resources, tea and coffee and a fully equipped computer suite. Good quality, reasonably-priced kai is provided.

Events

The Marae is available for use by non-University groups subject to kaupapa and Marae availability. It is resourced to cater for hui, wananga, meetings, conferences, celebrations, committee meetings, exhibitions, launches and presentation.
