In 2009 the School of Design introduced the Bachelor of Design Innovation (BDI) degree and the School of Architecture will introduce the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) starting from 2010, these professional degrees have been restructured to align with international standards, and replace the existing Bachelor of Design Programme (BDES).

No new enrolments are being accepted for the Bachelor of Design Programme. Please see below for information about the two new degree options that have replaced it.

If you are currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Design please contact our faculty student adviser to discuss your study options.

The BDI and BAS three year undergraduate programmes replace the Bachelor of Design (BDES) in the following specialisations;

  • Digital Media Design
  • Industrial Design
  • Interior Architecture and
  • Landscape Architecture.

Bachelor of Design Innovation

The Bachelor of Design Innovation (BDI) integrates a programme of study, which embraces investigations of design ideas, principles, histories and practices, strategies and vocabularies of three and four dimensional design by challenging the tradition and existing definitions of design. You can specialise in one of three areas

The BDI is the first degree within the University to offer a minor that allows students to include subjects and disciplines not normally associated with design.

Bachelor of Architectural Studies

The new Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) degree encourages cross-disciplinary study of architecture related disciplines within the designed environment professions. You can specialise in one of four areas

The BAS degree structure means you will be exposed to a variety of subjects including theory and applications, construction, structures, Pacific architecture, urban design and introduction to practice and management.

Please refer to the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) and the Bachelor of Design Innovation (BDI) for new enrolment information.
