Overview

A woman Prime Minister and a woman Chief Justice - what a change in the role of New Zealand women. Just over 100 years ago women couldn't even vote. Gender and Women's Studies at Victoria is a Bachelor of Arts [BA] major devoted to understanding how one half of humankind is offered different roles, different expectations, and different destinies from the other.

Studying Gender and Women's Studies at Victoria, you'll be exposed to some of the most important cultural theory of the past 100 years. You'll learn about the social construction of gender, and the historical and contemporary mechanisms that promote or limit women's development as full participants in society.

Gender and Women's Studies graduates are critical thinkers, capable of understanding and analysing contemporary issues. They are valued in government departments and social institutions, and sought after in all kinds of business where people matter.
