This paper examines the developing focus on timbre over the last 20-30 years in the realm of both instrumental/vocal music and sonic art. Composition/Sonic Arts majors who wish to take their creative output to an advanced level are particularly invited (good notational comptency is expected). Music Studies majors and Performance majors with an interest in contemporary approaches to their instrument(s) are also invited. Students express their research through a choice of extended creative, critical and/or analytical projects; they also present their findings through in-class presentations, and potentially present new work in public.
