Liz is is the Programme Manager of University Preparation. She has worked in a variety of educational roles including managing adult education, developing and evaluating course materials and helping adults plan for their studies. Originally from San Francisco, California, she has developed, taught, and researched bridging programmes in New Zealand. She enjoys assisting and preparing students for successful study at university and is currently completing a MA in Education at Victoria University.

Louise Moniati - Programme Administrator

Louise is the Programme Administrator for University Preparation and is the 'go to' person for all students, staff and those interested in the programme. She gained her teaching degree from the University of Auckland and taught in South Auckland for a few years before working at BEST Training (Private Training Establishment) as a Course Director. Her current role allows her to interact with students to assist them to work towards their goal of attaining university entrance.

Glenys Bowman - Course Coordinator

"Working alongside and guiding students through the stages of producing an essay is very rewarding. We offer lots of support and one-on-one teaching, and take great pleasure in the progress students make."

Glenys is the Course Coordinator for CUPR010 - Academic Writing & Research. She has a love of words and good writing which has led to a dual career as both a writer and a teacher of writing. She has been a journalist in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, working for newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. She has also written for government departments and is the author of two non-fiction books. Glenys has taught academic writing at secondary and tertiary level, and is an experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. In 2002 she completed an MA thesis on Peace Journalism at Victoria University. She has taught and developed writing courses at Victoria University since 2000.

Moira-Clare is the Course Coordinator for CUPR009 - Skills for University Study. She first trained as a primary school teacher but when her own children arrived, she switched to computers and corporations. Moira-Clare is a problem-solver who is passionate about Information Technology and teaching. She installed a global network for a major bank and a television satellite network for the Correspondence School. Now that her children have left home she is back teaching University Preparation students.

Francesca Costa - Teacher

Francesca is a University Preparation teacher. She also has worked at Victoria University for more than 12 years as a learning advisor and education tutor. Francesca is committed to supporting students achieve their education goals and has facilitated tutorial groups in study skills, academic writing and in education papers on human development and educational psychology. Francesca completed her MA thesis on the socio-cultural influences on the education of immigrant descendants in 2006 at Victoria University. She is passionate about education and the pathways to student success.

Dr Alistair Shaw - Course Coordinator

Alistair is the Course Coordinator for CUPR012 - Focus on Commerce. His first degree was in Economics and he taught in Victoria University's School of Economics and Finance for six years before joining University Preparation. Alistair also has a degree in Law, and has studied International Relations and Political Economics at post-graduate level. In addition to the Focus on Commerce course he teaches for the School of Asian Studies and is completing a PhD. Alistair has been a factory worker, a trade unionist and a student advocate at both Auckland and Victoria universities.

Dr Anne-Marie Tokley - Course Coordinator

Anne-Marie is the Course Coordinator for CUPR013 - Focus on Humanities. Anne-Marie has been teaching at tertiary level for almost 10 years, mostly in the fields of academic writing and communication, but also in a variety of humanities and business courses. Her research interests focus on English literature; however, Anne-Marie is also interested in the impact of media (television, magazines, books and movies) on society. Anne-Marie has recently submitted her PhD which investigates the function of the romance myth in contemporary popular Australian women's fiction.

Dr Steven Archer - Course Coordinator

Steven is the Course Coordinator for CUPR014 - Focus on Mathematics & Statistics. He has extensive lecturing experience, teaching classes of all sizes, from one-on-one to lecturing classes of 200 students. Steven currently teaches mathematics at both the University Preparation course and in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. In 2005 he completed his PhD thesis in pure mathematics at Victoria University. Steven has always been interested in the many different strands of mathematics and how they play off one another. He gets a lot of pleasure from introducing University Preparation students to the dynamics of calculation and watching them rapidly grow in confidence and skill.

Focus on Science - CUPR015
John Hannah - Course Coordinator

John is the Course Coordinator for CUPR015 - Focus on Science. John has taught both science and physics for many years in Wellington, and is currently employed in Victoria University's School of Chemical and Physical Sciences as a Teaching Fellow. In this role he teaches introductory physics and works with high school teachers in assisting students to transition between school and university - an endeavor that fits well with his work with University Preparation students. John has long been fascinated by the stories of science and especially enjoys introducing University Preparation students to physics, chemistry and biology. He also enjoys teaching how scientists' efforts to make sense of the world are mirrored in the learning of students at school and at university.

Focus on Social Science - CUPR016
Dylan Taylor - Course Coordinator

Dylan is a Course Coordinator for CUPR016- Focus on Social Science. Dylan studied for his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Canterbury and Victoria University of Wellington, majoring in English Literature and Political Science. He continued to study at a Postgraduate level at Victoria University, where he completed an Honours degree in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Sociology. Before attending University as an adult student, Dylan worked in a variety of professions, including retail, labouring and factory work. He now divides his time between teaching, research and film making.
