Important notes:
- Once you confirm your enrolment by signing and returning an Offer of Study, Change of Course form, or any other document by which acceptance into a course is formally agreed, you are liable for the fees unless you formally withdraw before the appropriate dates given below.
- You will no longer be liable for the applicable course fees if you apply for a withdrawal by completing a Change of Course form (available from your Faculty Student Administration Office) or applying in writing on or before the following dates:
2011 dates
- Summer (third) trimester courses (2011): within one full week of start date.
For withdrawal dates of courses in trimesters not listed here, students should refer to the appropriate School.
2012 dates
- Full year courses: 16 March 2012.
- First trimester courses: 16 March 2012.
- Second trimester courses: 27 July 2012.
- Summer (third) trimester courses (2012): within one full week of start date.
For withdrawal dates of courses in trimesters not listed here, students should refer to the appropriate School.

- Non-payment of fees, ceasing to attend or verbally advising a member of staff will not be accepted as notice of withdrawal.

A Fee Reconsideration will be granted outside the above dates only in exceptional circumstances.
A Fee Reconsideration will only apply to tuition fees; the student levies and other charges will not be reconsidered.
Note: Withdrawing late from a course may impact your eligibility for a student loan. Please refer to loans and allowances for further information.

Exceptional circumstances criteria are as follows:
Full Fee Reconsideration Possible:
- Incorrect trimester/stream of enrolment.
- Documented inaccurate advice from staff.
- Failure to take up place at VUW - for first year students only.
Sliding scale fee reconsideration (100/75/50/25%):
- Serious personal illness or injury.
- Serious personal circumstances.
Declined fee reconsideration:
- Domestic commitments.
- Employment commitments.
- Financial commitments.
- University workload.
- Ignorance of withdrawal regulations.
A Fee Reconsideration application must be made on the 'Application for Fee Reconsideration under Exceptional Circumstances Form' and must be submitted to the relevant Faculty Student Administration Office before the end of the academic year to which it relates.
An application must be supported by:
- Appropriate evidence. These must be originals or certified copies.
- Your own written, signed statement.

- Special withdrawal and refund provisions apply to the following programmes (details are available from your Faculty):

- Master's Theses;
- Doctors of Philosophy;
- Certificate of English Proficiency.
- Where fee payments have been made by StudyLink/WINZ, or any other contracted organisation, refunds will be credited back to such parties in the first instance and any balance then refunded to the student.
- Where fee payments have not been made by StudyLink/WINZ, or any other contracted organisation, the student should contact the Student Fee Advisors to request a refund.
