Enrolment Requirements
Below is a list of enrolment requirements to determine your eligibility to receive a student loan and/or allowance*.
Please note: Equivalent Full-time student (EFTS) is a measure used by StudyLink to assess eligibility. Taking 120 points is the same as 1 EFTS.
Minimum Enrolment
Minimum enrolment to be eligible to have your fees paid by Student Loan:
- 30 points /0.25 EFTS
Full-Time Enrolment
You must be enrolled in full-time study to get an allowance, living costs and/or course related costs through student loan:
- 1 trimester = 48 points/0.4 EFTS.
- Full year (two or three trimesters) = 96 points/0.8 EFTS.
- Trimester 3 (summer) enrolment only = 36 points/0.3 EFTS.
Please note:
- 96 points/0.8 EFTS is still required for a full time enrolment over trimester two and three.
- Any student loan/allowance application cannot be greater than a 52 week period and should not run across two academic years.
Limited Full-Time Enrolment
To be eligible for Limited Full-Time, you must have more than half of the above figures in a recognised programme of study: i.e. if enrolled in 1 trimester, you must have greater than 24 points (0.2 EFTS).
Students are eligible to apply for Limited Full-Time for the following reasons:
- if they are finishing a degree, and to do this they need to study less than full-time
- if they have an illness that prevents them from full-time study
- if it is in the students best interests to study less than full-time
- if a student can’t study full-time due to reasons beyond their control
Limited Full-Time applications must be endorsed by the Faculty Manager.
* These figures are determined by the Tertiary Education Commission and were correct as at April 2010.
