Alan MacDiarmid Building
This is the fourth report on progress with the Teaching and Research Building project at the south end of the Kelburn Campus. The building remains on course to be completed in April 2010.
Below is the image of what the finished building will look like. This can be compared to the actual appearance of the building now from Fairlie Tce with the only significant element of the façade that's not in place being the sun shade louvers.

The construction of the interior of the building has reached the challenging stage of integrating the services requirements for the Laboratories. The 32 fume cupboards are all individually vented to the roof through 350mm diameter ducts which occupy a significant area of the in ceiling space. This ductwork is being coordinated with the gas (up to 7 gasses) and vacuum pipe work, sprinklers and smoke detectors, electrical and data cabling.
The building work force has now increased to some 100 and as at July is continuing with wall framing, suspended ceiling, lift installation and the services above. The manufacture of laboratory benches, cupboards and specialist equipment is well advanced and will be ready to be delivered to site as wall and ceiling finishes are completed. Below is an outline of developments so far.
