Council Elections
Elections were held on Thursday 28 October 2010 to elect four members of the University Council: two members elected by the Court of Convocation; one member by the permanent members of the Academic Staff of the University; and one member by the permanent members of the General Staff of the University.
The results of the elections are set out below.
Court of Convocation Election
Four candidates stood in the Court of Convocation election. Voting papers were sent to 32,224 alumni on the active roll of the Court of Convocation Register. 3,623 valid votes were received, representing 11.47% of electors.
The successful candidates are Mr Ian McKinnon (Chancellor and a current member of the Court of Convocation on the Council) and Ms Helen Sutch (currently a co-opted member of Council). Both will serve for terms of four years commencing on 1 January 2011.
Academic Staff Election
Two candidates stood in the election. Voting papers were sent to 831 permanent members of the academic staff eligible to vote. 368 valid votes were received, representing 44.28% of electors.
The successful candidate is Associate Professor Megan Clark, School of Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research, whose term of office is four years from 1 January 2011.
General Staff Election
Three candidates stood in the election. Voting papers were sent to 1,035 permanent members of the general staff eligible to vote. 499 valid votes were received, representing 48.21% of electors.
The successful candidate is Mr Kevin Duggan (current member), who will serve a further four-year term from 1 January 2011.
The elections are governed by the Council Election Statute and were conducted using the single transferable vote (STV) method.
The next elections by the Court of Convocation and the Academic Staff will be held in late 2012; the next election by the General Staff will be held in late 2014.
