I am Miriam Hafner, winner of the 2009 Alumni Appeal Scholarship. I am now in my second year of study at Victoria University, working towards a BSc in Biological Sciences and would like to thank all of you who contributed to the 2009 Alumni Appeal to make my scholarship possible. It is fantastic to think my scholarship has been sponsored by Victoria alumni who were once students themselves.

The Alumni Appeal Scholarship has lifted a financial burden from my shoulders and has truly changed my study life. I can now focus all my energy on achieving the best possible grades and making the most of my time at university.

Scholarships like this are keenly sought by students – in 2009 there were 82 students competing for the inaugural Alumni Appeal Scholarship. I know first-hand how much a scholarship can help students like me and I would like to urge you to support the 2010 Appeal. It would be wonderful if another student can benefit from your generosity.

Alternatively, you may like to contribute to the Victoria Trust Fund. This Fund helps Victoria to take advantage of new opportunities as they arise. Last year the Fund supported a film on climate change, a collaborative project between Victoria and Oxford Universities.
All donations, of whatever size, will be received with great appreciation by the Victoria University Foundation whose charitable status enables you to claim a one-third tax rebate on your gift, up to the level of your annual taxable income.

I look forward to becoming a Victoria alumna myself and hope one day to be in a position to return the favour to another deserving student.
