About us

Learn about the role of the Faculty of Graduate Research in facilitating postgraduate research at the University.

We are a small team dedicated to ensuring your experience as a postgraduate research student is positive and fulfilling. On arrival at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington you will meet one of our Student Advisers who will enrol you into your doctoral programme.

While most of your time will be spent working with your academic supervisors in your School, in addition to your Student Adviser at FGR you will have contact with other key people around the University, including the postgraduate administrator and postgraduate coordinator in your School.

The FGR has oversight of all doctoral programmes and is responsible for the policies, procedures and guidelines that apply to your candidature. We also organise an induction programme, and a range of skills development workshops, and academic writing events to support you in your doctoral study.

The FGR also advise and have policy oversight of Master’s by thesis students (90 points and above).

The work of the FGR is overseen by a Board which includes representatives from all of the faculties and the Postgraduate Students’ Association (PGSA).
