What is Vic OE?

(Vic OE) Victoria Overseas Exchange is a student exchange programme which allows Victoria students (domestic and international) to broaden their horizons by travelling overseas to complete a trimester or year of their Victoria University degree. Both undergraduate study and course-taught postgraduate opportunities are available, including MBA. (Postgraduate students should contact the exchange office for information about which universities are available at the Masters level.)

  • Study and travel overseas AND earn credit towards your VUW.
  • Complete part of your degree overseas, while paying your normal Victoria tuition fees
  • We will even help you pay for it! All exchange students receive a grant of up to $2000 to help finance their trip.

Where can I go?

Whether you're learning another language or have only your mother tongue, Vic OE has more than 100 partner institutions at some of the most prestigious universities world wide. Stretching across five continents, Vic OE allows students to study in dozens of unique locations, from Hong Kong to the UK, Argentina or Mexico to the US to Spain, Germany, and many more!

Some of our partner universities teach in a second language, but over half teach completely in English or offer courses in English (you will see any language requirements noted on this website). Although Vic OE is perfect for those of you studying internationally focused degrees, it is relevant for all fields of study! Check out where you could be studying for your degree by selecting your faculty from the home page or from the side tool bar to discover where in the world you could be completing part of your degree!

What are the benefits of Vic OE?

As New Zealand becomes increasingly interconnected with the world, every employer will value your cross-cultural experiences and your new perspective about New Zealand's place in the world. Exchange helps to foster independence and a global awareness that could not be learned locally, making you more marketable within NZ and abroad. Not only that, but it is also a life-changing and unforgettable experience that students never regret!

This is the one chance you will have to travel and study at the same time without paying host institutions fees (you pay Vic tuition) and actually participate in a foreign culture instead of simply hopping between backpackers. Since you are completing part of your Victoria degree while overseas, you do not fall behind in your studies or have to take a gap year.

Vic OE is designed to help all Vic students realize their fullest potential. Vic partner universities offer some of the highest quality educational opportunities worldwide. We currently sponsor over 100 exchange programmes in 30 countries.
