Overview
The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood Upgrade programme is designed to offer practising early childhood teachers the opportunity to build on the knowledge and skills gained during their previous studies and teaching practice.
The BEd(Tchg)EC Upgrade is is an ideal upgrade qualification if you already have a Diploma of Teaching (ECE), its New Zealand Qualifications Authority equivalent or a Kindergarten diploma. Credit awarded for your diploma can go towards the undergraduate qualification. Online delivery allows you to continue to teach and study in your own community.
Qualification Structure
The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) EC programme comprises 360 credits. Qualifications (as defined by the listed groups) are credited towards the BEd(Tchg)EC as follows:

Applicants who have completed a two-year Kindergarten diploma need 160 points to upgrade to a BEd(Tchg)EC:

Applicants holding the NZQA Equivalency to the Diploma of Teaching (ECE) (including pathways), or a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) from institutions other than previous colleges of education or universities gained prior to 2000 need 180 points to upgrade to a BEd(Tchg)EC:

Applicants who hold registration as a teacher and who have been awarded a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) from a New Zealand institution other than previous colleges of education or universities gained from 2000 onwards need 140 points to upgrade to a BEd(Tchg)EC:

Applicants who hold registration as a teacher and have completed a three-year Diploma of Teaching (ECE) (including pathways) from previous colleges of education or universities need 115 points to upgrade to a BEd(Tchg)EC:

Online Delivery
The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood Upgrade programme is delivered online using the Blackboard platform. This allows teachers who are not able to attend face-to-face courses at the University to complete the qualification.
Credit Transfer
Students may seek permission to have appropriate university courses credited to this degree under current regulations. Contact the Programme Director who can support you in making an application for credit transfer.

Enrolments are done online www.victoria.ac.nz/enrol Make it clear on your enrolment form that you are enrolling in the BEd(Tchg)EC Upgrade.
Contact the Enrolments Office, email address or phone 0800 VICTORIA (842 867) if you have any queries.
Your application should include verified copies of:
- a NZ Diploma of Teaching (ECE), a NZQA equivalent or Kindergarten Diploma
- a current practising certificate if you have full teacher registration, or
- a current practising certificate and declaration of suitability if you are a provisionally registered teacher
- your birth certificate (verified by an approved person), or
- your passport (if birth certificate is unavailable)
- university transcripts and certificates of Higher and Advanced Diploma of Teaching (if applicable).
