Those with an undergraduate degree or equivalent which includes two teaching subjects, one to a 200 level and one to a 300 level. These teaching subjects form the content basis for the two curriculum areas that are required in the Graduate Diploma programme.
Graduates with a degree in only one teaching subject may be permitted to enter the programme so long as their teaching subject is approved by the Dean as a high demand subject. The teaching subject must be the major (300 level) in the degree.
| Full time for one year or part-time* for two years Programme must be completed within three years |
*Delivery of the programme part time is subject to staffing and external funding constraints. A decision regarding this option for 2011 will be made later in 2010.
This programme involves attending classes on campus or online and completing blocks of teaching experience in schools. The requirements and content are the same for both modes of delivery.
The online option includes a compulsory residency in February at Victoria's Karori Campus. Students are responsible for the costs of travel and accommodation for the residency.
There are two seven-weeks of full-time teaching experience (using the New Zealand curriculum) spaced throughout the year in New Zealand schools.
Teaching experiences are spaced in such a way that students are able to see how theory and practice interlink in the development of quality teachers.
