Postgraduate Education Programmes

Victoria University’s Faculty of Education offers postgraduate programmes that are tailored specifically for teachers, educational administrators, public servants, researchers and industry educators and trainers.

The Faculty provides postgraduate programmes that bridge scholarship, research and professional practice, and has strengths in teaching, ongoing professional development and the study of education. Our disciplines include education policy, assessment practice, educational psychology, diversity, curriculum, pedagogy and education studies.

Our postgraduate qualifications allow students to tailor their study to suit their personal, professional and academic needs. Some courses are available online using the Blackboard platform, enabling you to fit study in with other commitments and work from a home base. Depending on your area of interest, it may be possible to complete a postgraduate qualification as an online student. Campus-based classes are held late in the afternoon, as block courses over several days or at weekends, allowing you to continue with other commitments.

The postgraduate courses are designed to enable both teachers and educational professionals to engage in further study relevant to work and undertake thesis research in an area of interest. If embarking on an Master of Education seems daunting, the step-off qualifications: Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Professional Development (PGCEPD) (two courses) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Professional Development (PGDEPD) (four courses) allow you to plan your study in easily managed stages. These step-off qualifications lead the way to the Master of Education (MEd) (four or five courses plus a thesis).

There are three master’s degrees offered which can lead to PhD study. They are the Master of Education (MEd), the Master of Arts in Education (MA) and the Master of Arts in Gender and Women’s Studies (MA).

Credit transfer may be available to students who have completed postgraduate courses from another institution. With approval, some of these may be credited towards a Victoria postgraduate qualification.
