Proactive

Looking at potential problems is the most effective
way to prevent tensions. We can act as a ‘sounding
board’, to help you explore your options. Often this
prevents difficulties or keeps them from escalating
into conflicts.

Confidential

We can discuss your problem in confidence and we
will take no action without your agreement. We will
discuss your options so you know the steps available to you. These steps can be informal or formal procedures, as appropriate.

Supportive

When conflict does arise, we listen and help you clarify your thoughts. Defining what you need or want to happen will help in deciding which is the best way of addressing your situation.

Informal

The Service allows you to resolve issues informally
and can be used in place of, or before resorting to,
formal grievance procedures.

For Mediation

The Service can act as an intermediary between people. When appropriate we will try to set up a facilitated meeting between people that is managed by mediation. We endeavour to maintain a safe, productive environment for solution finding.

For Facilitation

Department or team facilitation is available. In some
cases, where there is no conflict, neutral outside
facilitation is needed so that all members of the
group can participate fully in the discussion. In other cases, where there are potential contentious issues, we can facilitate the productive airing of differences of opinion.

Educative

Individual coaching is available to assist people to
develop strategies to manage their situations. In
addition, we are available to speak to University groups or for training sessions.
