Profile

Stephen Hoadley is a foreign affairs specialist at the University of Auckland. He regularly lectures at the New Zealand Defence Force Command and Staff College and the Royal New Zealand Navy Officers Training School. He has lectured also in the United States, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia and is a frequent media commentator.
His books include:

  • Negotiating Free Trade: The New Zealand-Singapore CEP Agreement (2002);
  • New Zealand-United States Relations: Friends No Longer Allies (2000);
  • New Zealand and Taiwan;
  • New Zealand and Australia (1995); and
  • South Pacific Foreign Affairs (1993).

He has written shorter works on US, European, Asian and South Pacific foreign and security policies, and on immigration, refugee, human rights, and trade policies. He is currently editing a book on Asian security. His next project is an analysis of New Zealand-French diplomacy regarding nuclear weapons tests in the South Pacific.
