Profile

Gary Hawke retired as Head of the School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington at the beginning of 2008. He also then retired from the position of co-chair of CSCAP:NZ. He remains chair of New Zealand Pacific Economic Cooperation Council. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Distinguished Fellow of the New Zealand Association of Economists  and Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration of New Zealand.

As director of the Institute of Policy Studies 1987-97, he was responsible for managing numerous projects about New Zealand’s orientation towards the Asia-Pacific Region. He is the author of ”The Economic Relationship” in Anthony L. Smith (ed) Southeast Asia and New Zealand: A History on the regional and bilateral relations (Singapore and Wellington: ISEAS and NZIIA, 2005).
