Bruce Brown, QSO is a Life Member of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs and served as its first Director (1969-71) and again from 1993-97. He chaired the Institute's Research and Publications Committee from 1993-2004. A former diplomat, he served abroad in Kuala Lumpur, in the New Zealand Mission to the United Nations, New York (becoming Deputy Permanent Representative), in Canberra (as Deputy High Commissioner), in Iran (as New Zealand's first Ambassador, accredited also to Pakistan), in London (as Deputy High Commissioner), in Bangkok as Ambassador, accredited also to Vietnam, Laos and Burma, and as High Commissioner to Canada (accredited also to the Caribbean). He has published extensively on New Zealand political history and New Zealand foreign policy. He is a member of the Historical Advisory Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
