Profile

Anthony L. Smith is a member of the New Zealand Department of Prime and Cabinet.  He holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Auckland.  Prior to joining DPMC he held a series of academic posts including associate lecturer at the University of Auckland, lecturer at the International Pacific College, fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (Singapore), and associate professor at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (Hawai‘i).

Anthony Smith has published articles on ASEAN, Indonesian foreign policy, Indonesia’s political transition, Aceh, East Timor and New Zealand foreign policy.  His is the editor of the volume Southeast Asia and New Zealand: A History of Regional and Bilateral Relations.  He is also book review editor for the New Zealand International Review.
