Profile

Angela Woodward is a Programme Director at the Verification Research, Training and Information Centre (VERTIC), which is based in London, United Kingdom. Working from Christchurch, Angela manages VERTIC’s National Implementation Measures Programme, which provides legislative drafting assistance to States to implement the Biological Weapons Convention, the Chemical Weapons Convention and UNSCR 1540.  Angela’s research interests lie in arms control and disarmament law, policy, verification diplomacy and technology.

Angela is a member of the NZ Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms Control (PACDAC) and she serves on the advisory boards of the global civil society networks against biological weapons (BioWeapons Prevention Project) and chemical weapons (Chemical Weapons Convention Coalition). She has taught part-time in Political Science at the University of Canterbury (2009-2011) and was formerly an Adviser to the Chair of the UN Group of Governmental Experts on Verification in All its Aspects (2006), Legal Coordinator of the European Union Joint Action on the Biological Weapons Convention (2006-2007) and teacher in Public International Law at the London School of Economics (2007-2008). She holds B.A. (Hons) (Political Science) and LL.B. degrees from the University of Canterbury and LL.M. and Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education qualifications from the London School of Economics, University of London.

Angela is of Ngāi Tahu and Ngāti Kahungunu descent.
