Dr Michael Roguski

Director

Michael Roguski was appointed Director in February 2010.  He has over 18 years of research and evaluation experience - much of which has focused on research with marginalised and hard-to-reach communities.  Recent studies include:

  • The effects of imprisonment on inmates’ and their families
  • Māori perceptions of the Police
  • Youth gangs in Counties Manukau
  • Prostitution in Aotearoa/New Zealand
  • HIV/AIDS amongst refugee and immigrant populations.

Michael’s research and evaluation experiences have arisen out of his passion for community-level participatory research and extensive community-based networks across New Zealand; particularly with Māori and Pacific communities.

Michael has a doctorate in Social Anthropology and a Master’s in Psychology.  He has particular expertise in ethnography and kaupapa Māori research methodologies.  His methodological expertise in addition to his knowledge of ethics is evidenced by his role as a peer reviewer for the Health Research Council.
