Avoid the red species listed on Forest & Bird's Best Fish Guide
Avoid the species listed on Greenpeace's Red Fish List
Ask your supermarket to stop stocking bottom-trawled species such as Orange Roughy, Ling and Hoki

Do some research and speak up. Write to Minister of Conservation Kate Williamson and Minister of Fisheries Phil Heatley, and ask them to:
Set cautious catch limits
Reduce bycatch
Create more marine reserves
Improve seafood labelling
Or write a letter to the editor or your local MP.
Obey the rules when fishing – whether customary, recreational or commercial – and
call the Fisheries Hotline if you see potential infringements: 0800 4 POACHER
