Facilities

The Centre for Building Performance Research has the use of the extensive facilities of the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington.

These are the facilities available specifically for Centre for Building Performance Research.

The Effulger

An artificial sky simulator, where models can be placed in the effulger, and their performance accurately measured under different lighting conditions.

The Wind Tunnel

The wind tunnel is used to accurately measure and predict the effects of wind in an urban environment at speeds of up to 20 knots. A 1:200 scale model of central Wellington exists, and any new developments in this area can be modelled and tested in the wind tunnel.

The Heliosphere

Calculates shadows from sunlight. A building model is placed on the platter, and the light can be adjusted to simulate the effects of the sun at any time of day and year.

Data Collection Equipment

A range of data collection equipment is available to assist with research - includinglight meters, colour temperature readers, sound level readers, reflectivity meters, etc.
