Car Parking
What car parking is available for University staff?
Permanent and fixed term contract staff who would like to park their vehicles on campus are offered subsidised parking through ‘license to hunt’ permits. These permits must be displayed on all vehicles parked in University parking areas between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday, all year round. Staff can find a park in any of the permitted areas.
Reserved parks at Kelburn and all parks at Te Aro and Pipitea Campuses are restricted seven days per week, 24 hours per day.
Staff parking permits are issued by Campus Services annually in January/February.
There is a waiting list for each campus with some being approximately three years . Please contact the car parking team on carparking@vuw.ac.nz if you wish to register on the waiting list.
Please ensure that a parking permit is returned to the car parking team when a staff member finishes their employment at the University, so that a permit can be allocated to the next person on the waiting list. Parking permits are not transferable to another staff member.
More information on Staff Car Parking is available here.
What car parking is there for University visitors and contractors?
Staff who have visitors/contractors that wish to park their vehicles on campus must inform the Campus Security on extn 5398 of the vehicle details (make, colour, registration), or make prior arrangements for a temporary parking permit to be issued by emailing security@vuw.ac.nz.
Additionally there are Pay and Display carparks outside the Cotton Building off Gate 6 at Kelburn campus.
Are there any mobility parks for staff/students with disabilities? Where are they located?
Staff requiring a mobility park must send Campus Services at carparking@vuw.ac.nz a Disability Action mobility form signed by their doctor. Final approval for mobility parks will be in consultation with the Staff Occupational Health Nurse.
Who monitors parking at the University?
Campus Care staff monitor car parks to ensure only those displaying current parking and accessible permits park in designated areas. You can contact Campus Care on extn 5398.
No parking is permitted on yellow lines, in designated service areas, reserved car parks, near fire hydrants or on the grass. Please also do not park in a manner where you will impede the access of emergency vehicles.
How do I get a kerb mounted parking sign replaced if one has gone missing?
If a ‘reserved’ or named sign is missing from its mounting, please contact the FM Service Desk.
Who provides ‘sandwich boards’ to indicate special directions, events or parking arrangements?
Campus Care holds a limited number of signage boards, orange safety cones and temporary parking signs for use at events or to indicate special directions. Extn 5398
