Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology, Victoria University of Wellington

Dr Ronald Fischer studied at Leipzig University, Germany and received his DPhil in social psychology from the University of Sussex, UK in 2002. He is a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington and has given lectures and workshops in Brazil, Lebanon, US, Germany, Belgium, UK, The Philippines, Kenya and Australia.

Ron currently serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. He has received the 2010 Otto Klineberg Award Intercultural and International Relations Award by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues and the 2007 Early Career Award from the International Academy for Intercultural Research.

His research interests focus broadly on the interplay between culture and psychology, often in relation to applied problems that individuals, groups and communities face in their work and everyday life. Much of his work involves multivariate statistics and he is constantly challenging and expanding the application of methodological tools for cultural and cross-cultural research. His research centres around the following areas: multilevel perspectives on norms and culture (see the related files on the right for a recent presentation); the structure, functions and applications of values; intergroup violence and terrorism; response styles and standardization and Brazilian ethno/indigenous psychology (in particular, social identity and cultural practices).
