Postgraduate Study Options

Graduate Certificate in Designed Environments (GCertDE)

This graduate certificate is typically one trimester of full time study. It is a development programme for practising professionals and graduates will gain up to date specialist knowledge of an aspect of their professional discipline. Students will already hold a Bachelor’s degree and have sufficient training and ability to proceed with the proposed course of study; or had extensive practical, professional or scholarly experience.

Graduate Diploma in Designed Environments (GDipDE)

This diploma is a one year programme of full time study. It allows students to transition from a Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) in one specialisation, to a BAS in another specialisation. Students can study one of six specialisations:

  • Architecture
  • Architecture History and Theory
  • Interior Architecture
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Project Management or
  • Sustainable Engineering Systems.

Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture History and Theory (PGDipAHT)

This programme is for students who wish to pursue postgraduate study in theoretical courses within the context of an architectural education. It is a one year programme of full time study.

Master of Architecture (MArch)

The Master of Architecture is a theory-based qualification for students that have completed the one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture History and Theory or students who wish to pursue further studies in the field of Architecture.

Master of Architecture(Professional) (MArch[Prof])

This professional qualification is a two year programme of full time study. In the second year, students complete a major research project. Graduates of the course will have met the academic requirements for professional architectural registration.

Master of Interior Architecture (MIA)

The MIA is a professionally recognised degree in interior architecture for students who wish to pursue full qualification in this discipline. It is a two year programme of full time study.

Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA)

The MLA is a two year programme of full time study. Graduates from the course will have met the academic requirements for professional registration in landscape architecture.

Master of Building Science (MBSc)

This qualification is a two year programme of full time study. Graduates with a MBSc programme is for students who would like a professionally recognised degree professionally recognised.

Students can specialise in one of two areas:

  • Project Management
  • Sustainable Engineering Systems

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The PhD is the highest degree offered by the School of Architecture. It is completed by thesis only and is restricted to areas where appropriate supervision is available.
