Lake Ohau Climate History Project

The Lake Ohau Climate History Project is a scientific drilling project led by GNS Science and the University.

LOCH is a GNS Science/Victoria University of Wellington led scientific drilling project which aims to reconstruct environmental change in New Zealand’s South Island over the past 17,000 years from annually laminated sediments beneath Lake Ohau in order to better understand the effects of changing wind patterns on rainfall etc. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with national (The University of Otago, Meridian Energy Ltd, NIWA) and international (Australia, Italy, USA) partners.
