Spotlight Lecture Series - Ian Welch and Chris Ward

October 2016

The latest online threat to computer users is here. It’s called ‘ransomware’, and it tricks users into letting hackers past an organisation’s technical protections to wreak havoc on their computer systems.

Victoria University’s Ian Welch and Cyber Toa’s Chris Ward will discuss ransomware. What is it and how serious an impact can it have? How do hackers target their victims and hide themselves from detection? And, most importantly, how can we protect ourselves and recover from a ransomware attack?

The Victoria University Spotlight Lecture Series is an opportunity to sample the research undertaken by Victoria academics, in bite-sized lunchtime lectures. The Spotlight Series will take place regularly between 12.30–1.15pm in the Wellington CBD.
