Gain unprecedented insights into the inner workings of these creative industries and interact with world-leading practitioners in the heart of Wellington’s film industry.

Situated among the Weta Group buildings on Park Road, Miramar, the Miramar Creative Centre is the result of a collaboration between Victoria and our film industry partners in Weta Workshop, Weta Digital, Park Road Post Production and Miramar Creative Ltd.

Following a purpose-designed refit, the Centre includes studio spaces, recording and editing suites, computer labs and a workshop. It is equipped with green screen, motion capture technology and the same software used by film production companies around the world.

Study options

The Centre is home to two of Victoria’s one-year, full-time, 180 point Master’s programmes:

Master of Design Technology

Gain the skills you’ll need to work in game design, Visual Effects (VFX), animation and AR/VR experiences, and enjoy the benefits of teaching from industry experts who have many years of experience with studios such as Dreamworks, Disney and Weta Digital. The MDT, delivered by Victoria’s School of Design, is offered through the Wellington ICT Graduate School, established as part of the Government’s drive to train more ICT graduates.

Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice)

Two of the specialty areas offered by the MFA (CP)—film and music—will be taught from the Miramar Creative Centre. Study film production, post-production, film scoring and audio post-production. The MFA (CP) is an interdisciplinary programme taught collaboratively through Victoria’s School of English, Film, Theatre and Media Studies, School of Design and New Zealand School of Music, alongside teaching direct from film industry practitioners.

Scholarships

When you apply for the Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) or the Master of Design Technology programmes, you will automatically be considered for a scholarship, which partially covers your tuition fees.
